This reversible asymmetrical double garter scarf is achieved by alternating strands of two colors, knit every row, using the ‘double point sliding technique’. Double garter stitch makes its fabric light and puffy, and working it in two closely related colors gives it rich color depth. The scarf is knit from the tip up, with increases on one side and slow decreases on another side, until desired size. The double point sliding technique is so called because on alternate rows, you slide stitches to the opposite end of your double pointed or circular needle.
Approximately 72” in length by 18” in widest width, after blocking.
- 400 m/436 yd of fingering weight 27-29 st/ 10 cm (4 in) yarn
- 4.5 mm (US 7) 24” circular needle.
- Slip stitch marker. GAUGE: 21 sts/4” after blocking, but gauge is not important.
The scarf is worked alternatively with strand A and strand B.
The slip stitch marker is placed close to the increase side as a reminder. Move slip stitch marker up as work progresses.
